About us

The local PBA, in plain English.

PBA Local 172 is the union for every officer on the Pequannock Township Police Department — from the Chief to the newest patrolman. Most of us also live here, raise families here, and never really clock out.

Who we are

A chapter of the NJ PBA — and a piece of this town.

The New Jersey Policemen's Benevolent Association is the largest police labor organization in the state. Local 172 is Pequannock's chapter. Every officer on the department, from the Chief down, is a member in good standing.

Formally, we're a 501(c)(8) fraternal beneficiary society — IRS-recognized since 2014, donations tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Every board officer is unpaid. Our full filings are public record.

Less formally: a lot of us grew up here. Bought a first house here. Coach Little League here. The PBA is how we give back to the place that's been good to us.

What we stand for

Three things we don't mess around with.

01
Support our officers.

Advocating for the welfare, training, and working conditions of every officer on the Pequannock PD. When one of our own is injured, sick, or grieving — we show up for them and their family. Always.

02
Invest in local kids.

Annual scholarships for graduating Pequannock High School seniors heading to college, community college, or trade programs. Education shouldn't depend on a zip code.

03
Show up for neighbors.

Fundraisers for families in need. Sponsorships for youth sports. A presence at every lemonade stand, school fair, and community event we can fit in the calendar.

The team behind the team

Our dispatchers.

When you dial 911 or (973) 835-1700, a Pequannock dispatcher answers. They're the calm voice on the worst day of someone's life. They coordinate every officer, every response, every backup call — often handling multiple emergencies at once.

They work nights, weekends, holidays, and through every storm. The PBA represents officers, but no officer does their job without dispatch. We see you. We appreciate you. We wouldn't be here without you.

One more thing

We never solicit donations by phone.

Every year, PBA Local 172 sends one letter asking for a financial contribution. That letter is our only outbound request for donations. Ever.

We never call you at home. We never knock on your door for cash. We never use third-party fundraisers. If someone tells you they're raising money for PBA 172 over the phone — it's not us. Hang up, and let us know.
